I dont remember Marthas but i do remember when it was I think Da-lukcas and then Tom's. I remember playing on Taylor. It seemed like all the kids in FMT were all hanging along brown st and Parrish St. Until Morgans came along. I remember the riots in the summer on parrish and 25th st. and yah I also loved the lemons with the sugar sticks. i was one of the few kids who was sent to St,Nicks. I use to go to the summer camp with the Methadist church that at one time stood on 25th and Brown. Lots of the kids from the area went. Camp was great for the kids in FMT that missed out.

I was just recently introduced to this website and was amazed at how many people from Fairmount logged on. I was wondering if anyone remembers St. Nick's bazaar and the lemons with the sugar sticks inside of them. I remember every year I couldn't wait for the bazaar so I could get a lemon stick. Those were the good old days. I remember the Howdie Doody's from Maxines and how miserable she was but it didn't matter. The spoodie Oodie parties in the park and getting drunk and swing from that rope and almost killing ourselves. Sledding on suicide hill with a refrigerator door and green trash bags. When we use to go to Pete's Variety Store before going to St. Franny's and getting the Jolly Rangers but the whole stick ones and Chico sticks. I remember getting my first pair of Chucks from Herbies on 24th Street right next to the VFW. I am so glad that I found this site and how I love to here how other people remember what a great neighborhood Fairmount once was when we were kids. I feel bad for the young ones that are growing up there now because they don't have half the stores or activities we had as kids.

Another problem w/blacks again on Sat. nt. approx. 11am - 8 blacks on 25th & swain broke a car window on swain st. (probably to steal it but the alarm went off) they then proceeded to rob 4 white kids on taylor & aspen but after 2 "911" calls the cops finally came & arrested them outside of Jumbo's - again where were the cops. If the call was make that there were "white" kids on the corner the cops would have been there immediately.
